I think Open Veins of Latin America is a great, complete, country-by-country accounting of Latin America starting well back before colonization. At once infuriating and inspiring to learn such specific details of the people who played the roles of oppressors, revolutionary leaders, and everything in between. It also does a great job of explaining the wide array of waves of immigration from each Latin American countries to the US. Every country's story is so unique. a.co/d/h7OjRMV
